This option applies to CAD and Vector PDF files.
When Select Entity is on it allows selection of an entire entity. When the mouse button is pressed the entity will be input as a takeoff object. For example, when taking off contour lines, selecting a point on a line on the drawing and pressing the mouse button will cause the entire line to be input as a contour line.
As the mouse pointer is moved over the takeoff entities, the entity type and elevation (for CAD files) is displayed in the left panel of the status bar and the entity is highlighted in the takeoff area.
The top three items control how entities are selected:
- Relaxed - Any entity can be selected
- Strict - Entity types selected according to takeoff
- Use Recommended (Strict for Point Elevations and Boring Logs, Relaxed for all others)
There are four entity types that can be selected:
- Point - a single point
- Line - a single segment line
- Polyline - a multiple segment line
- Polygon - a multiple segment line where the first and last points are the same
When Strict is selected, the entity types allowed to be selected varies according to the takeoff:
- Project Boundary, Topsoil Strip, Topsoil Respread, Area Elevation - polylines and polygons
- Contour Line - lines, polylines and polygons
- Point Elevation, Boring Logs - points only
- Other Takeoffs - object selection is disabled
The recommended settings are Strict for Point Elevations and Boring Logs. Relaxed for all others.
For PDF drawings, the bottom item controls Append Mode.
With CAD drawings, if Use Z axis for Elevation is selected , the Z axis value will be used for the elevation.
Enabling Select Entity disables Snap to Entity Point and Easy Trace.
