Auto Trace is a simplified means of tracing lines on raster and non-vector PDF's. Auto Trace is available for regions and contour lines.
When Auto Trace is active, the takeoff cursor is a combination of a box and a +.

Auto Trace can be enabled and disabled using the Raster/PDF Menu or Toolbar.

Auto Trace requires that the background color be defined.
Auto tracing a contour line requires entering three points:

- The first point defines the start of the line.

- The second point defines the initial direction for tracing.

- The third point defines the end of the line.
A prompt for the point being entered will be shown at the lower left of the window in the status bar.
Regions only require the first two points. The third is assumed to be the same as the first.
Auto tracing is not always successful. When an error occurs a dialog appears with suggested remedies.

Auto Trace has a slight bias toward tracing in the counterclockwise direction.
