Topsoil factors at the top of the window include the Waste %, Site Swell Factor, Import Swell Factor and Import Compression %.
The Waste % is the percentage amount of topsoil stripped that lost or is unusable for respread or haul off. If there is no waste, enter a 0 or leave the Waste % field blank.
The Site Swell factor is the expansion factor for topsoil that is stripped. A Site Swell factor of 1.25 will result in 25% more yards of topsoil when the dirt is loose or expanded. For no swell or expansion of the topsoil, the factor should be set to 1.
The Import Swell Factor is the factor used for compression. The quantity of imported topsoil in Loose Cubic Yards divided by the Import Swell factor yields the compressed cubic yards. For results with no compression of topsoil when importing, the factor should be set to 1.
The Import Compression % is the inverse of the Import Swell Factor, expressed as a percent. Changing the Import Compression % changes the Import Swell Factor. The Import Swell Factor is used for calculations.
The Site Swell and Import Swell factors are often set between 1 and 1.5.
