BidScreen XL 9.8.2.3 is out: fixes Excel closing on new Microsoft 365 builds
If Excel has been closing on you when you open a workbook or click a cell, this update is the fix. BidScreen XL 9.8.2.3 went out today.
What happened
Microsoft's newest Excel builds for Microsoft 365 (Current Channel 2607 and 2608) changed how Excel handles calls from add-ins like BidScreen XL. A call BidScreen has made the same way for years started landing somewhere those builds no longer allow, and Excel closed. Some of you also saw Excel freeze, or got a prompt to end the task to finish an update.
What we changed
BidScreen now connects to Excel a different way, so the new builds have nothing to trip on. That is the whole change. No features were removed, and everything works the way it did before.
How to get it
- Already installed: BidScreen will prompt you to update inside Excel. Accept it and you're on 9.8.2.3.
- Fresh install or IT-managed: download the current installer from your Downloads page, or use your company installer.
- Network (pool) licenses: seats update through the license channel. IT can also pull the refreshed company installer.
It works with both 32-bit and 64-bit Excel. If your Office doesn't auto-update, you weren't hitting this crash, but update anyway so you're covered when Office does.
