How do I measure the perimeter or area of a rectangle?

Press the Rectangle button (or Edit/Popup Menu → Rectangle, default shortcut Ctrl+Alt+R). Click three adjacent corners in clockwise or counter-clockwise order. The rectangle is generated when the third corner is clicked; the fourth corner is inferred.
