Vertigraph, Inc. Releases Enhanced BidPoint XL Version 5.0Dallas, Texas ( July 23, 2009) Vertigraph, Inc., a leading developer of quantity takeoff software for the construction industry, announces the release of it’s BidPoint XL Version 5.0 software. Like Vertigraph’s popular BidScreen on-screen takeoff application, BidPoint XL is an Excel add-in application designed for estimators working with paper blueprints that seek an easy to use quantity measurement tool that documents the quantity takeoff directly in Excel. BidPoint XL requires a digitizing tablet and MS Excel.
Simply click on an Excel spreadsheet cell and electronically measure and draw items from paper plans using a digitizer tablet in seconds. An excellent audit trail is provided since the digitized quantities and drawings are saved with the Excel cell and file. A variety of colors, line styles, count symbols, area fill patterns can also be applied to the drawings. Multiple digitized drawings can be layered and viewed on screen with the ability to print a scaled color-coded printout. BidPoint XL also contains a collection of Excel estimating templates for general contracting, concrete and other sub trades.
Microsoft Excel is, by far, the leading takeoff and estimating application in the construction industry today. It is ideal for large and small contractors. Microsoft Excel provides flexibility, ease of use and low cost that many of the assembly based, database driven estimating programs fail to deliver. Virtually any estimating process can be effectively automated using Excel. BidPoint XL and BidScreen XL are the first and only Excel add-in applications that cleverly provide the measurement interface directly in Excel.
Several enhancements are included with each Vertigraph software release. These new releases allow the user to automatically obtain new product enhancements and upgrades via the internet. Vertigraph, Inc. has entered into a Value Added Bundle Agreement with Adobe System Incorporated and Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited whereby Vertigraph, Inc. will bundle its BidScreen XL and SiteWorx/OS software with Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.
Vertigraph, Inc., incorporated in 1991 and a worldwide leader in the development of takeoff and estimating software for the construction industry, appears to be the first and only takeoff and estimating software entity to join Adobe in revolutionizing how the world engages with ideas and information by offering a bundle of its innovative on-screen digitizing solutions with Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard now ships with BidScreen XL and/or SiteWorx/OS and will be made available for those Vertigraph customers not currently using Adobe Acrobat Version 7 or later.
Kim Border of Vertigraph states “Bundling Vertigraph’s latest BidScreen XL and SiteWorx/OS on-screen digitizing software with Adobe Acrobat Version 9 provides the construction professional with the complete solution. Estimators and Quantity Surveyors can conveniently work with the native electronic file without the need of time consuming file conversions. Most competing electronic takeoff software applications either automatically force a conversion of the native file into their propriety format, thus making the original file useless in any other imaging software accept theirs; or have limited functionality with certain PDF files and/or display pdf images that are distorted and grainy, both requiring time consuming file conversion processes that are subject to error and problems. Vertigraph has recognized and addressed these issues. Now you’ll no longer need to contact the author of the file to request them to re-save the PDF files in an alternate format which has long been, and still remains, a standard fix when dealing with PDF files.

Ability to Link Hard Dollar Estimates to Vertigraph Electronic Takeoff Tool Dramatically Reduces Takeoff Time and Reduces Potential for Costly Errors
TEMPE, AZ and DALLAS, TX – March 11, 2008 – Hard Dollar Corporation, and Vertigraph, Inc. today announced a technology partnership that will allow customers to radically simplify the takeoff and estimating processes by incorporating Vertigraph’s BidScreen XL on-screen measurement tool with Hard Dollar’s estimating software. This technology allows contractors to complete project bids in a fraction of the time, with a clear and concise audit trail. This approach results in winning more business while lowering costs.
The companies’ software integration will be featured as a part of the ConExpo tradeshow, at the Las Vegas Convention Center March 11 – 15. Demonstrations can be seen at the Hard Dollar booth S-10607 and the Vertigraph booth S-10606 on level one of the South Hall.
The Hard Dollar/Vertigraph partnership is part of a shared commitment to improve the interoperability of technology systems in use within the construction industry. The integration of Vertigraph’s BidScreen XL tool with Hard Dollar’s Estimating module will allow project teams to:
- Eliminate hours of manual takeoff on each bid. Quantity takeoff is one of the most timeconsuming tasks in the estimating process, often requiring hours of time to measure items and materials that will be required for a project. Using Vertigraph’s BidScreen XL tool, estimators can electronically takeoff materials directly from TIF, PDF, AutoCAD DWG, JPEG and many other file formats.
- Stop manual entry of material costs into project estimates. Vertigraph’s BidScreen XL takeoffs are automatically stored in Excel, and those values are read directly into Hard Dollar estimates with no need to import/export or copy and paste. Users can simply click on a spreadsheet cell to electronically measure and identify areas, lengths and counts from electronic drawings. The measurements and digitized drawings are saved within the Excel workbook – which in turn is saved as part of the Hard Dollar estimate – where they can be edited and printed with ease.
- Make more money and stay on schedule for each job awarded. Since the takeoff quantities are tied directly to project plans, users will reduce redundant work and significantly minimize errors or omissions in project estimates, resulting in a higher return on each project.
